I just had an interview for an english teaching job in Beijing but have been left with a couple questions. Any feedback would be great....First off, I am on a tourist visa and was told today that it would be impossible without leaving the country to get it changed over to a Z/working visa unless I was going to be getting a full time position(the job is for only 20hrs per week). Is this right? Do I have to get a full time job to be able to switch my L visa to a Z visa?? Secondly, she said that she could get me a F visa and that this would be alright....sounded a little suspicious because I thought for sure you had to have a Z visa to work in China? Are they telling the truth, or are they just trying to save a few bucks? Any help would be great. Thanks! |

As far as working 'full time' goes, basically it means if you sign a one year contract. The amount of hours you work does not affect this. There have been some changes to visa rules lately, it has become difficult to obtain a Z-visa inside China. Though I don't know all the in's and out's yet.
It is common for people who are here to only have a F-visa, if they are here for shorter than 6 months. Legally you are not allowed to work on this, but the school can hire you as something other than a teacher.
China is not the same as the rest of the western world. |
