Is it necessary to secure a job and thus have a sponsor before teaching in China?
Or it is possible to just come as a tourist and then find work. Do you still need to leave and return on a different visa anyway? |

Previously it was common practice for schools to get people over here on whatever Visa was expedient, then change it to the proper Z Visa for work. This is no longer the case however, as the law has been changed and I believe they are no longer allowed to do this.
But you know China, these things aren't always enforced, and some schools can still manage to change your Visa for you after you're here. If a school tells you to come here on an L or F Visa, and they'll change it for you later, I guess it's OK, but I wouldn't actually encourage anybody to do so. But you are not allowed to come into this country on an L/F Visa and start looking for work. You must have a sponsor first, for either Visa.
If your school changes your Visa for you after you get here, you won't have to leave the country (I didn't). Would you have to leave if you found a job after coming here on an L/F Visa? I don't know, technically that's illegal.
Just because tons of people do it, doesn't mean it's OK. China has laws like any other place and you take a risk by knowingly breaking them. |

thanks for that info.
So, you do need to have a sponsor before coming if you want to teach in China legally? |
