I intend to purchase an Apple PowerBook, soon, to take with me to Japan. PowerBook's come with the Airport Extreme cards built-in, now. I'm curious, though, if I purchase it in North America, whether or not the card will work with wireless networks in Japan. For instance, if I buy an Airport Extreme Base Station (or AirMac, as it goes by in Japan) from the Ginza Apple store, will my card work with it? Also, if I decide to go out to a cafe with available hotspots, will my card work there?
If anyone knows about this, it would be a great help. I've extensively searched the apple website, but there is no mention of it. I've also not seen it covered on this board before. Eikaiwa.net, also, does not seem to have covered this topic.

I have an ibook with the airport card in it and I have been able to pick up some hot spots just fine. I bought it in the states. If you want to buy the base station in Japan, the card should work with that too. |
