Has anyone had experience leaving Aeon/Nova before the contract finishes(say, a few months after arrival) ? Did you have any trouble getting your last month's salary ? Or did they try to keep it ? |

Nova follows the law in reagrds to this and from what I have heard, I think AEO too. But doesn' AEON have a bonus? You can kiss that goodbye. |

NOVA and AEON are required by law to pay you your full salary within 7 days of you leaving your job, minus any expenses, loans or tax that may be owing. A few months at NOVA and you will just be coming out out probation with them and perhaps paying back the start up loan. Quitting after a few months may be detrimental to your wallet.
About 70% of NOVA teachers leave their jobs before they complete their contracts. |

Thanks, I just wanted to see whether it got messy if you gave notice to leave after a few months. Frankly, Aeon ,for example, offer better start-up benefits, so after a few months you will have saved enough to make a change financially viable, c.f. coming over and having to pony up almost 200K Yen just to move into a place befor you even start earning money. |

You will start earning money from the day you arrive there, but once you have paid off your airfare, any loans you have incurred, your start up costs, it may be three or four months before you break even and start saving anything.
There are several places around where you dont need to pay key money, but if you want your own apartment you can expect to fork out a bit of cash.
A lot will depend on how much you bring with you, and expenses will be the same where ever you go. Expect to save about $500-700 a month after your initial expenses are taken out.
PS why would you want to quit AEON after a few months anyway? What are you hoping to go into with only a few months experience under your belt? |

Thanks for the input. I should have mentioned that I am coming BACK to Japan. I have an idea of who I can find work for, but they don't offer the same start up package. Basically, you pay your own way. With Aeon, they subsidise your appartment so you can hit the ground running. Of course, in the long run everything evens out no matter how you get there, but I've done it the other way 'round (i.e brought over 500K to keep me afloat ) but wasn't in the black until after 3 months. So the only reason for taking a deal with Aeo/Nova would be to ease the transition.
It may not be worth it in the long haul, I'm just exploring options. |
