To anyone who has traveled to Japan, found an employer and then received their work visa, approximately how long does it take from the time one finds an employer to the time one receives their work visa? I understand this process may vary depending on the person/home country, but I'm trying to get a general idea.
On an unrelated note, anyone on this forum listen to the Disco Biscuits? |

assuming you have had an interview and they have said they are willing to sponsor your visa, you should allow six-eight weeks to process a visa (your certificate of eligibility, actually, which you exchange for a visa stamp at the embassy). Depending on the time of year and how busy they are it may be faster. |

What if you land a job about a month before graduating from university.. can the Visa application process begin right then with some sort of documentation or letter from the school stating date of graduation, or must you wait the extra month for something more proper (like a paper degree, etc.)? |

Immigration needs proof you will actually graduate and that you have enough credits to attend the ceremony and get your diploma. Being one or two credits short of a degree is not sufficient. You need either an official letter from your university or a copy of your transcripts. You dont need a copy of your actual degree to apply for a visa.
I came to Japan soon after my final exams with a sponsored work visa but the graduation ceremony was not till a few months after that. |
