Hello everyone,

I am in Korea and am switching jobs. This means I have to leave Korea to get a new visa. But instead of simply making a visa "run" in a day, I want to spend a few days and shop, and look around. Now I have some questions. I am really an electonic junkie and would like to get an English O/S PDA or one of those handheld/laptop (small laptop) CE computers I heard about. I also like just looking at new gadgets and I think Japan is the best place for it.

Is there a place in Fukuoka that I can go to find stuff and spend a day like a kid in a candy shop. I haven't booked my ticket over yet, but I would prefer Fukuoka if I can because it is the cheapest (want to save as much of my money for buying stuff...not travel).

Also, while I am at it, is there a store that I can stock up on clothing, underwear, etc. for my size (I am xxl, huge and tall) and is there a place where I can shop for western spices, brand names, and foods. I plan on coming over with an empty suitcase and coming back with a full one.

Hmmmm, oh, and while I am at it, I am a diabetic, and would appreciate information about an English speaking doctor there that I can aproach if I run into problems...not anticipating any...but like to be safe than sorry.

Any addresses and directions in relation to the ferry terminal would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm sure you can get some Dave's locals from Fukuoka to answer that more specifically but just bear in mind, if you're coming from Korea to Japan to shop and get stuff cheap -- you'll be sorely disappointed.... Ironic as it is, electronics aint exactly cheap here. I've heard that China is the place to go for that... BUT, given that standard disclaimer, I will try to be helpful...

FOr Fukuoka, you COULD try here:http://kyushu.com/fukuoka/shopping/search/ but I'm not sure how up-to-date that info is.... Or how complete....

Tokyo's Akihabara district is the real, ORIGINAL playground where you can spend a day like a kid in a candy shop...

Some info here: http://www.akiba.or.jp/index_e.html

Actually, I think for MOST of what you mentioned, you might be better off going to Tokyo instead... But I may be wrong.

OK, Since nobody can tell me anything about Fukuoka, I've heard that I might have more luck if I go to Osaka. Can anyone tell me about:

a) Electronic, PDA, and Laptop/computer stores

b) A place for large clothing

c) An English speaking Doctor

d) A place for western groceries

Thank you
