After teaching for a year with JET I'm now back in the UK but with extremely itchy feet. I'm really thinking about teaching ESL in China, but with so many companies seemingly promising you 'dream conditions' I'm a little sceptical of more than a few.

I've heard a few bad reports with regards to The British Council's scheme in China....notably appartments and salary. Although money isn't particularly an issue, I'd like to know I would be comfortable and not having to worry where my next meal is coming from.

Does anyone have any good (or bad) experiences they could share with relation to BC?

Also does China offer any schemes that receive government funiding? I only ask this because I assume (although maybe wrongly) that they would be 'more on the level'.
