I was wondering if anyone has had contract negotiations in the last month. If so, has SARS had any effect on your contract?
I have talked to a couple of the state run universities up here in the North-East and they seem to have the feeling that they will have no problem getting teachers and so they are offering the same pay and benefits that they offered last year.
Personally, I intended to return, but I am going to be more careful about what I sign.
I am going to insist on a SARS escape clause. If WHO or CDC puts this section of China on a warning list, then I want to have the no penalty option to return to the US immediately if I so desire.
It was announced on the Chinese TV news here in Shenyang that the government was ordering all schools to allow foreign teachers to return home early if they so desired do to SARS and with no penalty. They were to pay the airfare the same as if the contract were completed and pay all salaries due. Can anyone else confirm this. Has anyone had any luck actually doing so? |
