Im looking to do a tesol with tefl international at some point this year(it will be in thailand, vietnam or egypt, and after this I hoope to find a job teaching english. My question is where is a good place to start? I dont have a degree but I would like to teach for at least a few years. What places would I have a reasonably high chance of finding a job? I was thinking maybe vietnam, cambodia or Yemen, but I dont really know what the situation is for someone like me who has no degree, will it seriously hinder me? |

I don't know what the hiring requirements are for the countries you mentioned (this is the China Job-related Posts forum) but in China you need a minimum of a bachelor's degree and two years of teaching experience to legitimately qualify for the status of foreign expert (which is required to obtain the Z-Visa).
Many unscrupulous private English language schools will forge a degree for you if you don't have one in order to apply for your Z-Visa (others will simply encourage you to come here on a business F-Visa and work illegally). But when you get into bed with the devil, you should expect the worse. Expect to be treated like chattel.
Invariably (in the past), a response like mine has been followed by several others from those who will tell you that they don't have a degree nor did they have any prior teaching experience before accepting a teaching position in China and now they are as happy as little cherrystone clams earning unsolicited raises and just loved by all. This is the rare exception, not the norm.

The answer is college. Then, in the absence of teaching experience, a TEFL course would be very helpful.

Hehe, I came here without a degree or TEFL, and I had no teaching experience whatsoever. I was hired though, and I was 'obtain' the legal permits. But I was totally screwed over. Only corrupt little scumbags can 'obtain' things, and the same corrupt little scumbags will take you for all you have.
Get a degree man and TEFL, do things the right way. |

I have heard that it is easy to find work in vietnam. about cambodia- a friend of mine who went there said that social conditions there are disturbing. for example, there are many people who have been made amputees because of war. |
