How's it going?
I'm going to be starting a job with AEON in March in Nishinomiya, and after a lot of probing on my part, I still know nothing about my apartment. To be honest, it's starting to freak me out a little. Is this common? I don't want to get to my apartment and find out it is dirty, 50 sq. feet, and has a large hole in the floor from which I can view my landlord showering. I know AEON is a good company and my guess is that they probably wouldn't screw me, afterall that is why I took the job with them, but shouldn't they know something about where I am going to live by now?

Also, at the interview for AEON I watched a video and in the video they talked about the apartments being 100 sq. feet. Is that accurate? Does anyone have an AEON apartment that is bigger/smaller? I am trying to determine how much stuff I can take and knowing this will really help.

Ooo, yes, another thing, is there any English book exchange programs or clubs in Japan that anyone knows of? My biggest fear is that I will get stuck with nothing to read.

Have a good one,

Congratulations.

What stuff did you want to bring, then I can give you a better idea. PC's are fine. Books etc. When you get in contact with your previous teacher, email them about anything they dno't want, and ask them if they can leave you some books.

All teachers are required to clean the apart. before they leave. There shouldn't be any holes in the floors where you can view your neighbour.

Shocked is this a joke or are you serious about the possibility of seeing through the floor??

Thanks Merc!--Good stuff in your response, I feel a little bit less freaked.

The thing with my school is that it is a new one and it I am going to be the only western English teacher there. I am not sure if that means that my apartment is going to be especially clean and bare or what exactly that means, have you had any friends in my position?

As far as things to bring, how much stuff did you bring? I am thinking of sending myself (if i can afford it) 2 boxes of books, and one box containing shoes, medicine, gifts, and other personal things that won't fit easily in my suitcases. I am going to have two large suitcases, a carry-on, and a laptop. Does it sound like those things will fit? Do you have any friends who brought entirely too much stuff? I am trying to figure out where I can cut back, but I don't want to cut back too much because I know myself and I know that one thing that will ease my transition and lessen my culture shock will be having my own stuff in my apartment so it feels homey.

any insight is gratefully received Wink
thanks

Your recruiters might be able to get you in touch with the current occupants of your apartment (the current teacher), but if, like you said, it's a new school, you may well be the first one in there. If that's the case, at least you won't have to worry about garbage left over from the last teachers Very Happy
When I worked for Aeon, my apartment was small, but super clean and modern. My coworkers though had pretty horrific places (dirt wise)...

FYI
Amazon Japan can deliver almost any book to you within a week COD! It's GREAT! Most international centres also have a book exchange.
