Is there a demand in schools and universities in Jeddah for English Literature ? i have a Degree in English Language & Literature and am proceeding with my Masters in Literary Studies. Do u think i can teach Literature in Jeddah, or should i get a Masters in Teaching English instead?
Please help. Which Masters program is more marketable?

Theres always a demand for EFL teachers in KSA, especially for those who know when and when not to use capital letters, but in my many years in Saudi Arabia I never heard of anyone teaching English literature. It must happen somewhere, I suppose, but the the need for literature teachers must be infinitesimal compared with the need for EFL teachers. I think the most you might find is some university somewhere with delusions of being a real academic institution that has a literature component to an advanced EFL course.

If youre determined to work in Saudi Arabia, a masters in TESOL/TEFL/TESL or whatever abbreviation you prefer would be much more advantageous. The smartest thing you could do though would be to get out of this field entirely. If youre smart enough to get a masters, why not get it in a subject that doesnt require that you work in an awful place like Saudi Arabia to make a living? I wish I had.

English literature is taught at a number of schools in Jeddah, including the university, the women's colleges, and the English language private schools. I have taught literature here for eight years. If you have a more specific question, I'll be happy to try to answer it.
