The DELTA is nw being offered by distance learning via International House and the British Council.
Unfortunelty it is not on offer in HK yet. Perhaps if intested parties write to the British Council HK?
The alternative might be via Thailand.
Below is a link for any interested parties. The cost is approximately $27K HK, almost twice the cost of the TEFL International.
I am curious if anyone knows if the EMB recognises the TEFL Int. Dip.?

Why don't you contact the EMB and ask them? I know nothing about the dip to which you refer, but you have been in the business long enough Chris to know that not all qualifications offered are of the same quality. I thought in a previous post you said that you were going to do the PGDE at HK Uni? At your stage of your career, should you really be looking at getting anything other than a totally recognised qualification? |

The DELTA is a recognised qualification. It has QCA recognition in the U.K.
The distance course seems flexible especially for those who work a lot and need to get the assignments done when they can. |

I can't get onto the PGDE becuase I didn't finish a first degree, and my Dip.Ed. and other teachign Certs. aren't considered enouh for enterance in HK.
To Anfy, yes the DELTA is highly regarded and recognised, I was refeering to TESL Internationls Dip.TESOL, very highly spoken of. But I haven't found the time to contact teh EMB to check as to wether or not they recognise it.
Anyway a Dip.Ed. and a Dip.ELT/TESL will meet minium requirements for the HK goverment NET scheme, startign at MPS 15 - 17. Not a lot but if you can get the housing, then that would be worth while.

While i am here, I might as well post some more info.
Dips.: Dip.ELT HKU $20xxx Part-time
Dip.TESOL (TEFL INTERNATIONAL) $ 15xxx
DELTA not available in HK
Distance DELTA (Thailand and other locations $27xxx at current exchange rates.
Trinity Dip.TESOL (Not available in HK)
PGCE & PGDE quite a few in HK, but ridgid requirments for a first degree, I have had my applications rejected many, many times for that reason. |

Any yet another non-proof read post be myself iwithin 3 mins.
Once and Again you're absolutely correct.
My only question is, since I am curently unemployed and unable to find full time, just offers of part-time, should I return to the UK or do it here?
I would rather stay here, but there is so little serious employment on offer. |

http://www.teflinternational.com/
They advertise on Dave's and I have heard good things abot the course.
The price is attractive.
But if money were not an issue I would say the recognition of RSA DELTA or Trinity may be worth the extra cash investment.
If I had the money I would do two, TEFL nt's first for practise then RSA or TRINITY, pad out my C.V. a little more
Let me know which if any you are considering. You never know we could be study partners. |

Just quietly Chris, this is NOT a well regarded qualification.
Sorry to those that have done the course at the beach in Thailand.
I hear it is a nice beach.
You are much better advised to do a distance education qualification from a uni. in your own country.
You speak of “the DELTA” as that offered by BC & IH as above. Many legitimate tertiary institutions offer a DELTA.
Best of luck,

This should probably be a new thread but will start it here.
MOCK Dip. ELT ELTA TESOL etc.
Since it is posible to download a number of curriculums from the net for a number of the Dip. courses.....
Who would like to join me in forming a study group for a Dip. or perhaps I should say a mock Dip.
Since I don't have the fund right now, ther eis no reason why I can start chuning through the reccommended reading and perhaps some past papers.
Anyoen care to join me in forming a study group for this task?

Not quiet:
In that link, they offer the Cambridge Certificate Course (RSA CELTA).
The Cambridge RSA Diploma is the DELTA. A higher level course.
Unfortunetly there are not so many choices of venue for the DELTA world-wide, hence i am very excited by the offer of a recognised distance learning option for it. |

I hear tell that there is a fundmental problem with distance learning courses of the type you mentioned, Chris, in that to be credible one needs to undergo a practicum or teaching practice of a minimum number of hours with real live students. Would a distance learning programme give you this type of training? |

The requirements stipulated by the EMB for Dip. Courses to be recognised specify 9 - 12 hours of supervised teaching.
I believe that the RSA Distance DELTA use the appointed mentor / tutor for this purpose.
As you will be aware the requirement for being the tutor / mentor are probably quite high. Although you may submit a request to appoint someone of suitable experience and qualifications to be your mentor / tutor.
I don't know of the exact arrangements, it might be that the supervisions are to take place at the British Council or International House venues.
As I stated earlier, the BDC HK is not a participant of the programme yet. Hence we should all write in requesting that they offer the Distance DELTA too.
Either way, I personally have complete faith in the quality of a Cambridge distance DELTA, although I expect it would be a hard slog without a study group. |
