I need to rent a long term apartment in Tokyo. I have heard that most agents don't deal with gaijin. Any recommendations of those who DO lower themselves to deal with us non-Japanese... Who do YOU rent from in Tokyo?

In my experience, the problem is not with the real estate agents themselves but with the landlords. I found most real estate agents to be gaijin friendly... It's just business to them so if you've got the cash, they'll deal with anyone.

Once you find a place with that agent, they will make a call to the landlord who will then say either yes or no. In my experience, it was about 50/50 finding gaijin friendly LANDLORDS.

Generally though, the situation is not so bad and it's not so diffficult to find a place. I would tend to avoid the smaller type real estates run by elderly couples. That was just my experience though... Everyone's will be different.

Try Kimi Information Center. They are gaijin friendly and really helpful.
