I'm looking to fly over to China really soon and just find a job over there in person instead of all of this internet stuff. I was wondering what the job situation is like in Tibet? I would liek to go there sometime but if I could teach there that may even be better. Thanks |

I suggest you take a look at the internet before you come, or you may have some problems and disappointments. Especially with the Tibet idea. I hear its like the Hotel Caliafornia, you can never leave. |

I noticed a job on daves job board for volunteers to teach at an orphange on the border of Tibet they didn't say which side. The website is blocked in China for replies. It's a Montossori . |

If you are from the US - forget about Tibet. The authorities in that province have just introduced a new policy for hiring foreign nationals, and it specifically states not from US. |

If you are from the US, or find other difficulties getting a job in Tibet itself, try for some parts of Sichuan province, and Qinghai province. Not considered part of Tibet itself (by China), but many areas have a very high population of Tibetans ... and a lot of Tibetans consider it to be a part of Tibet. |

I don't really think 'making money' is an option there - why not Shenzhen or Shanghai? Seriously, if it's cash you're after, Tibet is not the place. That said, I would imagine around 3000-4000 per month, based on comparisons with Xinjiang province.

You need to do some serious home work, boy, before coming here.
Why on Earth would anyone want to go to Tibet? If you have a political agenda you are quicker out of the place than you managed to enter it!
If you even dream of making money in Tibet, then you should study its geography and economy a little bit longer before asking such questions. You just can't come to one of these territories that are under-developed, nose around and get even paid for it.
Tibet has for years been off limits to most of us. Tourists still have to formally hire a spy to monitor you in Lhasa, so how can you expect to be given free rein in a classroom?
Besides, you would have to be physically fit for the high altitude where any human habitation in TIbet is feasible, and not many last long there.
Finally, some NGOs that curry favours with the authorities have been allowed to send foreign experts to Tibetan autonomous counties - in Gansu, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces; the selection of foreign volunteers or FTs is rigorous and unscrupulous. Expect a lot of vetting!
Pay in such cases normally is rock bottom minimum according to the national provisions: expect between RMB 2200 and 2500. Plus perks. |

Well, I'd say just go there and see how far you can get.
If you're reasonably fit you can deal with the altitude, it helps to travel higher towards Tibet in the course of two weeks or so, gradually getting used to the conditions.
You won't make lots of money, but that shouldn't be the reason to go to Tibet anyway. And you can work in Gansu or Yunnan, near the Tibetan border with lots of Tibetans living there too.
I'm sure IF you can find find something it could turn into a very rewarding experience.
Another thing you could try is become a tourleader.
I've done that for a while, and will do it again in the near future, and it's a great way to go to Tibet, make some money, work legally, and get to know the country well.
Thing is you need travel experience in China to be able to apply for this kind of job.
Anyway, good luck,
Dajiang |
