Hi,
Long time guest and watcher, first time poster!
I am seriously considering doing the China thing. I have a B.ED and B.A. and wondering if anyone out there has heard or worked with a comany called Canadian Foundation Centre for International Teaching. It is a joint venture of education programs and works with (Chain of Sino-Canadian International Colleges (SCIC) with universities and government organizations in China. They post teachers at Nanning, Guanxi and other cities.
See: http://www.cfcie.com.cn/esl_en.html
Just wanted to know if worked here or dealt with them in any way.
Thanks for your time

Hello,
I am thinking of working for this company as well. I know this is an old thread, but does anybody have any experience with them whatsoever? |

There are a LOT of these joint venture things these days. My last school was given approval by Newfoundland govt. Students would at some point write a Cndn high school final exam,,,
Keep in mind these are money making places although they give the impression of "joint venture" and "approval" and the rets. Students will be no better than anywhere else--just richer. Of course this doesn't mean they are bad to work for..Just be careful as with any other employer...If you like them---and want to go where they are located---fine. Nanning by the way is a popular place generally with FE's...
Glancing at their site they are "waiting approval" ---I would view them like any chain school, |

hey all
finally someone is responding here! thanks lagerlout and bwyta
Since the time I posted I came across some other info about CFCIE. They are basically a recruiter for Sino-Canadian Inter'l College at Guanxi College in Nanning. Below are some links:
http://www.sinocan.cn/english/list.htm
and also:
http://www.sinocan.cn/english/teachers_guide/index.php
Also, a teacher who once taught at SCIC but not through CFCIE:
http://www.xiangtan.co.uk/index.htm
I have been doing a lot of research on them. CFCIE recruits at the local college where I live in Thunder Bay, ON. and I was considering going with them last year. Some people from here went and said it was a great experience (teachers who had taken a TEFL course at COn College and signed with them) At the time I finished a web design course at Confederation College and was thinking of doing something different and travel the world. Now I have a contract job and bored stiff with the 9-5 life. I really want to try something different but can't seem to pull the trigger and go. I guess the fear of the unknown.
How have you finally decided to just do it?
bwyta, have you signed up and been accepted? COngrats if you have. Are they accepting more teachers?
Lagerlout, You seem like someone that knows a lot about TEFL. Can you make a living long-term teaching in China and TEFL in general. I am 31 and thinking of trying something new.
ANy other info would be appreciated.
take care and thanks

Hi John,
Yes, I've been accepted to teach for the 2005-2006 year, starting at the end of August. The first round of hiring for this teaching year ends January 31st ( so it may still be possible to submit a resume), and there is a second round (in April, I think). I don't know for sure if they're hiring anyone else, but I'm pretty sure they will be. By the way, two previous teachers from SCIC live in Thunder Bay and were on the list of teachers available for contact that CFCIE gave me; you may be able to call them up or meet them if you do decide to apply. Best for now,
Jeff |
