Hi Guys, Just found this site and hope you can guide, help and share us in this field.
We are a married English couple in our late 30's looking to have a change of life direction and join the field of ESL.
We would like to know the best places to start and what are our chnaces of getting work etc...
We are both educated to voacational level (ie have no batchelors degree) and so know Japan and Korea are out of the question. We are looking to do the i-to-i diploma course, anyone help with experiences and opioins of this course. We are looking to start Feb/March 2006 as my work contract expires and I've deceided that is a springboard to do something else in my life, hence this!
We would primary like to work in Buenos Aires but only speak holiday Spanish, anyone help here? Or we fancy China, I know there is lots here on the forum but will the i-to-i couse be enough as we also have NO expereience!! for any of the above

One other thing, we have 2 adorable cats who are the spanner in the works of our plans and I could not bear to be parted from them if possible so any info here about taking them with us would also be appreciated.

Stay tuned, man, until you have made your decision, and perhaps beyond that. Read our dialogues and diatribes to get the feel of the place before you make it here. You are right now full of enthusiasm; you will need a lot more than just that; yourcredentials are another thing, perhaps not a problem in itself though a weight on your conscience, and thus will tend to diminish your bargaining power.
Don't expectn a job to be a long-term solution to your housing and residency needs. Employers are seldom professional, and they give you short shrift if their financial bottom line is reached. With that comes a new challenge: where to move to with two lovely cats in a box.
I am less afraid for your personal wellbeing as I am for your cats' survival chance here. Do you fancy cloistering them up inside a concrete cubbyhole 24 hours a day?

Come on Roger, why not tell them to just bring an AK-47 with them for self defense.

An I to I course is a good step if you are teaching English. The best thing to do is decide where you want to go - China is a BIG place and if you are up North you will have to like the colf. If you prefer warmer climates stay toward the South.

As a couple you can fair well with getting a job in the same place and staying together in the same aprtment.

Be careful, some employers try to scam you and always keep some hard currency in case you are short or need to bolt.
