Hello,
I am studying TESL minoring in INTL Studies and am curious about any difficulties faced by female ESL/EFL teachers in this country.
Have you found adjusting difficult? Have you been able to pick up any of the language? what have been your biggest challenges?

In China, there's a famous saying that, "women hold up half the sky".

A few years ago I worked on a QEF project. The Head of the Education Department in Hong Kong at the time was a woman (Fanny Law). The Head of the project steering commitee was a woman. The Project Manager was a woman. The Deputy Project Manager was a woman. The two Assistant Project Mangers were both women. The Administrator was a woman. The Accountant was a woman. The most senior male on the project was the guy who fixed the computers.

I remember talking to one of the female NETs about why she thought there were so many problems on the project. She was very clear. It was obviously because her and the other female NET's talents were being suppressed by Hong Kong's male-dominated management culture.

A true story.

I work now with a female principal and a female vice principal, a female panel head, a female line manager and a female coordinator.

Maybe HK is not one of the places where women's rights are disregarded?
