I am moving to Spain in Feb and I wanted to know if it was easy to set up a bank account. Would it be best to use an international bank like citibank or the Bank of Hong Kong (HSBC) with both have offices here (Australia) and there.

An other option may be getting paid in cash and sending it home through Western Union transfer and then paying it off my credit card or into my account.

Any experiences ?

My job insists that they pay me directly into my bank account, at the bank that they have chosen. I've not had to send any money home to Oz, but I left some there to cover any uses of my Australian credit card that might crop up.

I'm a member of a credit union in Australia, and with my Visa debit card have never (in a large number of countries) had any problems withdrawing money. Not tried depositing though...

When I opened my bank account here, they asked for an EU passport (which I have), so I don't know what happens if you don't have one of them...

Good luck!
Lozwich.

I went through an academy that had some kinda agreement w/ a major bank in madrid, so i opened one up that way.

like lozwich said, there are a decent amount of academies that pay via bank transfer. others pay via check. if you don't have a bank account, i'm not sure how you'd go about cashing those checks.
