Take a look at the Job Information Journals...
http://www.eslcafe.com/jobinfo

Like anywhere else in the world, there are some good schools and some terrible schools. Don't take a contract in Indo without corresponding with some of the teachers at the school first.

You should not have a hard time getting a job with EF as long as your approach is proper enough. Dont think that you will be able to save money there as the indo rupiah is not worth much anywhere else. Indonesia is a 3rd world country but you can get by pretty well the wages you will earn teaching but you will not be able to live as you do in a western country with that pay.

I believe that indonesia in allot of ways is still a secret kept from allot of the western world in comparison to other SE Asian countries. You will love it there and find it to be one of the best experiences of your life and this is coming from an American Laughing

EF pays probably around 5 million a month. That's probably around $550 US right now. Can you live comfortably on that? Well, you can probably eat out frequently, live in a rented room, and save $50 a month if you use a fan instead of AC, and are somewhat frugal. Prices have gone up in Jakarta. Back when I got stuck making 4 million a month by the monetary crises for half a school year, I was still able to save, but I think prices have doubled since then. I'd get a plane ticket and proper immigration paperwork negotiated in if I were single and didn't want to save any money and wanted to go for something like that. I wouldn't take such a low salary in Jakarta, especially since I have a family. It would cost me money to live.

IF you have experience, or even just a good ESL related education, you can probably do better than EF if you come here and look around, even if only by a few million. If you will work with kids, some kindergartens might pay a little more than that in Jakarta.

If you have experience, particularly with business English, there are more opportunities, but usually piecemeal and not full-time. I know of a company looking for a teacher for 2 grand worth of classes in March, and 1.5 million for a once a month visit for someone with good credentials. I'm on an exclusive work agreement full-time with a bank in Jakarta. There are some good jobs if you have a degree and experience.

I actually saved more as a teacher at EF Bandung than I have been able to here as a public servant. All depends how you live. If you live the high life and go to Jakarta nightclubs you'll soon see your savings disappear.
