Looks like a new site, new to this board anyway. I thought that it was worth it's own thread, rather than buried among other threads.

Find private students at www.myu.com.tw

Nice looking site, with some great features. I particularly like the fact that all info including pics is visible, but teachers can pretty well choose who sees this information.

I like the idea that students need to pay to access the information, and I agree with the website admin that this will likely increase the likelihood of serious enquiries only.

I like the fact that teachers can submit their info, and turn this on and off, when they need or no longer need students.

Finally, I like the fact that it is well written and easy to use. You can see that the person who developed the site is a native speaker with experience in the area of securing privates and they give good solid advice.

A site that has been asked for in the past has finally come to fruition.

Let me be the first to wish you guys luck, and although I am not in the market myself, I hope that the users of this forum can support that site.

No I don't have any involvement in the site - I just think that it is a good idea, and a nice looking site.

Isnt it illegal to work as a tutor if well basically, if one is not Taiwanese? Do you guys (and girls) think it might be risky to advertise ones self in this way? Im very new to the Taiwan teaching scene (not even there yet, will be arriving from Beijing after the holidays) and would be interested to know what others thought.

The site itself is doing nothing wrong as foreigners teaching privates is not illegal per se, provided that the people who participate have the correct type of residency to be taking on private students. Foreigners with APRC's (residency offered to foreigners married to locals, and long term resident foreigners etc.) can take on any paid work that they qualify for. Assuming that all of the teachers advertising their services are APRC holders then the site is totally legit.

It is the individual persons responsibility to ensure that they act within the requirements of the visa that they hold here, and not up to the website to police this. If some teachers with ARC's are posting their details online, looking for extra work, then that isn't really the fault of the website in question, and as they don't charge the teachers for placing their details on the site, I assume that they couldn't be held responsible, if ARC holders are using the site to secure illegal work.

Yes, it is and no, it's not. Whether or not it is illegal is irrelevant. Government officials enforce the law at their own discretion and with little to no judicial oversight in these matters.
I have not yet heard of anyone being deported for teaching a one on one class or even larger.
In fact one of the reasons that SSETT recommends an accredited home schooling program is because no license is required to teach a small class in a private home.
Being a foreigner in Taiwan means all of us are subject to arbitrary arrest and deportation without judicial review from the moment we step off the plane.
Welcome to Taiwan!

Of course, we're arrested every day and sent to the gas chambers, as in keeping with your positions in another thread where you compare the ROC government to the third reich (LOL). Your views'd be really funny if they weren't so offensive to those who'd suffered under real oppression.
