yup, i posted this question on the UK branch, and i'm sticking it here too!
i'd like to know how many of you got hired at a good place through a job fair, and if so, what was it called?
been to any horrendous fairs?
have any other suggestions?
yes--i'm googling.
a "good" job lets me save 1000 USD/mth-- and i live pretty cheap.
ps--thx to VS for mentioning that ME visas take a lot of time--i've jump-started my search instead of waiting until april. |

Your welcome, Sprightly. There is also the detail that most places have completed their hiring by then. They normally finish up their interview process at TESOLArabia. Now, that is the convention that you should try to attend for ME jobs. It will be in Dubai and you can google up the dates... in March I think.
Can't help you out with British job fairs... IELTS?
Saving US$1000 a month? Depends on your credentials... If you have an MA and experience, no problem.

I have to give you one warning. They tend to not take into consideration 'future MAs' so this will cause you problems with many employers. Some ME unis will just tell you to apply AFTER you have it in hand. You're working with many bureaucracies that can't deal with anything a little out of the norm.
But, if you can swing the visit, it will also give you a chance to see the country and network with other teachers.

IATEFL is in Cardiff in April (not IELTS - that is an exam !)
I was not im[pressed by IATEFL when I went there a few years back. The job fair at TESOL Arabia is more likely to deliver - especially if you are looking at GCC countries. |

Dumb Amuricans, what do we know? It didn't look right when I typed it, but was too lazy to check it out.

GCC, sometimes known as AGCC -
Arabian Gulf Cooperation Council - the theory is that they work together on security, finance, and all that... Mostly an excuse to meet regularly in alternating countries in order to mess up the traffic with their motorcades.
(the word cooperation is used loosely...)
