It is midnite so I am hesitant to even post this. When I hit the submit button it will take 5 minutes for the message to go through and another 5 to get back to the main menu.
Is this normal??? on school computers? Funny but when I go to "my office" the computer is instant. But its a shared computer so I dont bother. I suspect there are so many bugs in this one it slows it down but maybe I am being hysterical. But it also FAILS to connect on most sites and is getting worse all the time. If there were netbars nearby I wouldnt even use the thing. By the time this is posted I will have made lesson plans, had a nightcap and gotten some sleep. I hate slow computers!!!
Could it be all the IMESH and ICQ and other such stuff that is in the hard drive??? Everytime something is downloaded it creates issues. Or maybe this comp. just needs to be shot like a horse with a broken leg..... |

Gerard: Suggestion:
If you intend to spend any time in china at all: buy your own computer parts and take them with you wherever you go. Thye are so cheap here. Like i already bought a dvd-cdrw drive 600 Yuan.
You can buy memory and chip to boost performance. all you need is the schools basics: motherboard, monitor etc.
Take the parts with you whereever you go.

About line speed.. ADSL is much much faster 50x? faster.
Buy an ADSL modem . ...500 Yuan.
Buy a net card... 20 yuan (some modems don't need them).
Install adsl line (is a separate line).
pay monthly fee of 60 yuan a month (hubei's rate) for limitless time.
Enjoy internet 24 hours/7 days..never need to switch it off.

Now with their paranoia about SARS, their spy-ware is working overtime, and so they have to slow you down to check where you are going, like a tollbooth at rush hour, or checkpoint. China, like western countries....when they are afraid, they want to check everything everyone wants to say, everywhere they go

PS I have no idea if that is true...but a lot of blocked sites, more traffic at the fewer open sites???  |
