I would like to teach somewhere in Central America. I'm wondering if it's best to arrange a job beforehand, or simply to go there and look for jobs. |

Most school directors here in La Repblica de Yucatn are hesitant to offer jobs to teachers until they're here in person. However, I know of at least one local language school that tries to have positions for its fall terms (starting in September) filled by the end of June.
I can see both sides to it. There's a certain sense of security in knowing that a person has a job lined up before arriving. However, I'm not sure that I'd want to accept a job without first seeing the school and meeting the DOS and some of the teachers in person. More than one DOS has been known to stretch the truth a bit when offering a job from afar.
Best wishes!
