Hey all,

I was just wondering how to call home the cheapest. I have a cell phone, and I've been using the If cards. The time on those cards just melts away though. Yes, I'm a talker.

I suppose you don't have a computer yet. I use the audio/video conferencing options on msn messanger to talk to people back home. Hey, they can even see me while we chat. The bandwidth isn't the greatest on msn, there's a little lag and you have to plan to be online at the same time, but it's free (of course, you need internet service which isn't free)! Appart from that, a land line is way cheaper than cell phone calling cards. I originally got my land line phone specifically for the long distance. You can also get prepaid cards for payphones. Not sure how they compare to groundlines and cellphone calling cards.

Go to 7-Eleven or any other convenience store and ask for an international phone card (guoji dianhua ka). There are a number of different brands. You can then call a toll free number, punch in a code and call overseas at cheap prices. I think you need to call from a fixed line rather than a mobile though. They work on payphones without the need to put money or a card in.

P2P telephone service. All you need is broadband internet access. You can even use the internet cafe's computers because all you need to do is open an account, down load the software, plug in the mic and some speakers.
