Hey all. I was wondering what the Poles think about English teachers with dreads. I have em but, I also have a CELTA. Also, where can I find the best time in Poland where there might be a few jobs.
Thanks

Well you might get hassled, but I think you will be suprised at how 'modern' Poland really is! Cool

I am very alternative style of person, and I didn't get hassled in a bad way, if at all, by anyone... It was all fun, and good natured.

I guess it depends on the school and the city, but from my experience, what they will look at is your skills, certifucates and, unlike in the West, your ability to work well. [Your hairstyle is quite a superficial issue.]
For the interview, as with any, I would tie them back if I were you, for neatness sake. [If they're short ones, don't worry.]

Good luck! Very Happy

I dont know where you are from, but im from Canada. Upon coming to Poland i was amazed about how many people had dreads. Very Happy If you are looking for a job now is the best time. A new semester is starting soon and there will be many new jobs for teachers almost everywhere in Poland. If you are cool and like to party might i suggest Wroclaw. I am currently working in this city and there's a really good and young crowd here. If you need more advice about any schools in this city just reply back.

Cheers and good luck Wink

I went with waist length hair in a braid...no problems. I taught at the university too.

I've heard good things about the Hilton school of language ad the British Language center. I am currently working for a school called Big Ben. I wouldnt say that they were the best school, but ok i guesse. On the plus side they are looking for another Native English teacher. I think that they are looking for someone under 25. I know you said that you wanted to start in March, but most jobs start in very early March. This means that they will probably want you there late February. Its a little rushed i know, but if you are serious about a job this is probably the best (and maybe only) time that you will get hired. I dont think that you have to worry about a visa if you are an American. But you will have to find a school in the next few weeks or wait until September. Im not an expert as I have only been here for 5 months, but this is the most honest and informed advice that i can give. Plus besides Kracow, Wroclaw is probably the most amazing city architecturally speaking in Poland.

Peace and Good Luck. Smile

I thnk if youre american you need a visa - in fact if youre not EU citizen, Not certain on that but Ive just been hired at a school ahead of an American becasue Im British and its less hassle for them re visas (nice to be apprciated for my teaching skills ah!)
