Hi all,

I'm an American planning on being in Latin America (Guatemala first) and wanted to get recommendations for travel insurance. I have none in the US.

Thanks!

Here's one you could try.

Otherwise, there's Blue Cross, Blue Shield...I don't know about prices though

And check with your school, if you've got one lined up. Since many offer exchange programs, a lot of them also run a sideline in travel insurance brokering.

For what it's worth, my advice is don't get sick, and if you do, doctors in Guatemala at least are about as cheap as you'll find anywhere, even without insurance. About US$5 a visit.

Take them on as private students and you can often get much of your medicine free from their muestra-medica collection, too.
