hey guys. im living in yokohama now and want to get another tattoo. does any one know of any places in or around yokohama or maybe in tokyo that is good. also, im worried about cleanliness in those places. are they as clean and good as american/canadian parlours? i would hate to have it infected or have a really bad tatty done that will stay with me forever.
any ideas??? |

Judging from a couple places I saw, there's a huge range of standards. Although a major Japanese art form, the taboo against tattoos probably keeps it from being as much of an industry as it has the potential to be.
I heard of a place in Yokosuka that's supposed to be good. If you're in that area and happen to come across GI's, ask them.

I believe Horiyoshi sensei, one of the most famous tattoo artists in Japan, lives and works in Yokohama. He does traditional designs but now uses the tattoo gun as opposed to the traditional method of 'tebori'. Do a search on the net. He is in huge demand and charges 20,000 an hour, but he is pretty talented. You can also search for books about him on Amazon.com etc. |

I just got a tattoo, BUT I don't live near Tokyo I live in Osaka. If you want to come to Osaka to get a tattoo, I can recommend a place. It was very reasonably priced - for Japan. As they are about twice the price here compared to Canada I can send you a pic if you're really interested. |
