I think that could be said for any city in Thailand. Cuz every city I've been to has so many pretty girls, but that is just my thought.

There's not too much info on the web specifically
for Petchaburi, but these 2 have some useful stuff:

http://thailand.sawadee.com/phetchaburi/ (Sawadee.com / Petchaburi)

http://www.thailandguidebook.com/provinces/phetchaburi.html (Thailand Guidebook)

Hi,

I teach at a High School in Phet'buri and have lived here for 2 years. I know pretty much everything about this place! What do you want to know?

GREAT
You're the person I'm looking for Wink
Here are my questions:
-Is it a nice place ?(I know it's a "difficult" question.Still...)
-Can I expect to meet other teachers/expats ?
-Any sort of night life ?
-Any private language schools (to teach on weekends)?
-How far is it from the beach?

I've been offered a teaching position in Phetchaburi but I'm a little worried because I've never been there and don't know what's the place like (I've travelled all over Thailand a year ago and lived for a few months in north BKK ,so I have some idea of Thailand but not of Phet'buri. I'm not presently in Thailand and can't check. ).

Thanks

Hi,

1, Is it a nice place? - I think so. It is a very friendly place, Cha-am and Hua Hin are a bus ride away (and Bkk is only 2 hours by bus). Khao Wang (the 'mountain') is lovely, the cave is nice the temples are beautiful. The people make it though - they are great, welcoming and friendly.

2, Other teachers - There are now a lot more teachers living in Phetburi but it is up to you to get on the 'expat wagon' so to speak. It is mostly guys with Thai wives and families. I am a girl and there are two other girls at my school plus one or two elsewhere. The expat scene is not big though. You will make Thai friends though. If you want an expat scene then maybe Phet'buri is not first choice (although saying that I have a couple of good friends here and I am sure when/if you come we can show you around a bit).

3, Night life - the night life is really not big at all, we have 2 nightclubs (if you can call them that) - I don't go to them (although I have been in the past). I think they are dire but others disagree. I tend to socialise in bars or restaurants with live music. They are cool - and there are lots of 'em. Mostly Thai folk music (which is ace, but if we walk in they will usually try a falang song or two!).

4, Private language school - Only Siam Computer and they won't take you only for w/e work I don't suppose. It is REALLY easy to get privates set up though - so many people ask me all the time and you end up having to say no as there are not enough hours in the day!

5, Beaches - Hat Chao Samran is close - 20 minutes by motorcycle, Cha-am is 45 mins to 1hour by bus, Hua Hin another 15 - 30 minutes further. Between Hat Chao and Cha-am is Puktian too. And on the other side Kang Krachan National Park (beautiful) is close, there you can sim in the rivier / dam and see wildlife and have a ball.

Which school has offered you a position? Are you due to start in May? Do you have accomodation?

Laura
