How is the situation for finding work in TEFL as of 2005 ? I have heard and read on the web that there was a large drop in student numbers from China. What have been the repercussions among schools in NZ ? Would like to hear practical and realistic information from people living and working down under. I personally am a U.K citizen working out of Switzerland looking to move with my family to NZ. Ideally I 'm seeking a postition in admin, marketing, and or personnel management in which I have gained experience in the last 3 years. |

Kia ora,
TEFL has indeed taken a hit here in New Zealand. Many schools are barely scraping by. Overall numbers are down by about two-thirds, or so I hear.
If you want to immigrate to NZ here's my advice. Get a trade certificate, builder, plumber, or the like. New Zealand is screaming for skilled tradesmen. You'd land a job in no time. With a contract in hand you'd be able to apply for permanent residency. |

yeah, they also took ESOL teachers off the Occupational Shortages list - check out www.immigration.govt.nz , they updated the lists a couple of days ago;
but if you got "real" teaching qualifications - secondary or elementary school, you have a very good chance |
