Hello -

I am trying to find a job teaching in Peru. Can anybody give me an idea of what it would cost for an apartment in Lima. Nothing fancy, but decent. Also, any idea what the monthly or hourly salary is in Lima. Thanks a lot for any help you can provide.

David Malin

Living in LIma can be quite inexpensive but you get what you pay for. A nice furnished apartment in miaflores which is one of the nicest parts of lima can cost you around $400 a month. You can get a basic apartment in central lima or San Miguel for around $200 so it is up to you and your tastes and standards on that one.

I personally would pay more and go with miaflores of even San Isidro. You will see where the difference in costs is going.

I will be back in Lima in about 10 days for a month and am very excited about it. Feel free to ask me any questions that you might have.

Regards,

If you are looking for a job in Peru I know of atleast two possibly three schools looking for teachers in a town called Chachapoyas, situated in the Northern Andes of Peru. Its nothing like Lima in terms of pay but its also nothing like Lima in terms of the danger of getting knocked over by a collectivo or getting mugged by a gang fifteen year olds!!

Its really good if you want to get away from the Gringo Trail and practice your Spanish as next to no-one speaks English.

My buddy from Canada went to work there for six weeks with not a lick of Spanish and after six weeks was well on his way.

Guess it depends what your looking for.
