Hey, I was just wondering as I prepare to go to the Kinki region in March, am I likely to find any of the comics I collect? I know Japan is big on its manga and I like that stuff too, but can I find popular American titles like X-men or the Ultimates in english? If so, are prices greatly inflated? And yes I am a partial-geek...leave me alone. |

Uh not really..... and if you managed to find some you would pay hefty hefty prices on them. You will most likely not find any that will have a regular monthly change in em either... it will be one or two issues etc.
If you want to keep yourself abreast of it, you should make arrangements to have a subscription mailed to you. |

Come on you Aussies, own up, who immediately thought of that lisping little mincer Brian Mannix when you read this thread title.
To the the OP, just get your old girl to send them to ya or get a subscription. |

Subscription is one option, the store I go to,Midtown Comics, does worldwide shipping, which is another option. You get 10% off all online orders as well. I don't know their website, but if you do a search they should pop up easily. |

Japanese don't like the American comic industry, and when you think about it what you get for the price you get it at - it really is a rip-off. Notice that hardly any Japanese comics are about super-heroes. Most of them are just about your every-day Yoshi.
And I was imagining the comic-guy from the Simpsons when I read this thread. |

Alright, alright, make your fun. Graphic storytelling is great medium. Novels are for writers that can't draw, and movies are for writers with serious access to money. I would never read a comic or novel for that matter, about regular life though. What's the flippng point? Escapism is about escaping, not living vicariously through others. On the other hand I've seen enough real life "comic book guys" to scare the bejesus out of me but, hey, I don't let soccer hooligans scare me away from soccer either. I guess I'll be looking online though...kinda sucks.

I've been meaning to get started on that book about Escapism. Thanks for reminding me. You're my kind of, cat. Can you dig it? I'm with you, man. I'm a comic book enthusiast...well, was at least. I'm a writer, too. But, I can't draw. And, I'd love to write a movie if I had the money. |
