Right now I am a few months away from completing a two-year business degree. After this I want to complete a TEFL or TESOL program. I was considering a program at a Wright State University which is twenty credits, but am now considering TEFL International. What would be better? Would I have any chance of finding work without having completed a Bachelors degree? I do have one year of experience tutoring through my local literacy council, maybe this would be an advantage?
I am going to complete my Bachelors degree in International Business; minor in foreign language including Spanish and French (both of which I have intermediate skill in) and possibly a third, maybe Mandarin. I would like to teach English somewhere abroad for about one year, if possible, before I enroll in my Bachelors program.
Also, I was looking at an Internship option through TEFL Int'l. They offer one through Nike and it is located in Thailand. Does this sound like a good idea? Would it be safe? I don't know much about TEFL Int'l and I don't know much about Thailand.
In the long-term I would like to travel around either teaching English or working with my degree on an international level. Also, I have never been outside of the US besides a visit to Toronto, Ontario, CA. I am going to Guanajuato, Mexico for two weeks of study in March. I guess we'll see how that goes. Any type of advice or even criticism about my plans will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch! |

It is definitely preferable for me to work somewhere that supports my language skills and interests. That basically means a country where Spanish or French is spoken, or China. I know this is a bit broad but I hadn't completely decided about this yet. |

Would you like to stay in Mexico for an internship or a teaching job? |

Guy,
At this point I am just exploring my options so nothing is set in stone for me. I would deifinitely consider it. Besides that would give me a great opportunity to improve my Spanish language skills and my resume at the same time If you know of any programs in Mexico that provide the TEFL certification and opportunity to teach/intern please let me know. |
