We are headed there in our truck & camper soon to practise teach at Casa Sonrisa. Anyone been there & done this? I sure would like some feedback about it. What kind of place the school is, what Progreso is like etc.
My husband & are headed there to get some English teaching experience before we check out teaching jobs in Mexico.

I have been there! It's a pretty quiet town from what I remember, lots of vacationing families there, both American and Mexican. You can rent a house right on the beach. I was there staying with my brother-in-law's family, it was a nice vacation. Merida is fairly close by, a pretty nice city.

i lived in merida for 6 months and visited progreso frequently (it's a 20 min bus ride that costs a little over a dollar). there's not much there..it's a sleepy little beach town, pleasant enough, but you need a car and probably someone who knows the area to take you to the nicer beaches. however, it's a fun stop (as long as a cruise ship isn't docked there at the moment, in which case it turns into gringo-land). the seafood is excellent and very cheap.

however, i recommend you visit merida for at least a couple days if you're going to be that close. it's a lovely city with much to offer. i may be a bit biased though Smile
