According to their ad, MediaKids works with the Thai MOE?
I haven't found much info at all regarding the school. Any help?

Are you in-country or not? If not, wait until you're here and your job prospects will improve by 100% or so.
Most schools with "training" (which usually ends up meaning "kids") or "kids" in the title are the kinds of places one wants to avoid -- though I'm sure there are a few genuine exceptions to this rule.
And no school that I know of works "with" the Thai MOE. They're a govenrmental adminstrative body, dealing mostly with licensing, policy, and fines, and have little to nothing to do with acutal teaching. MediaKids probably just means that they talked to someone over at the MOE once and it was, like, groovy. |

Thanks for the response Sheep-Goats. I'm not in Asia until April; and have narrowed my search to Japan and Thailand, although haven't been able to 'google' much in the way of information regarding the listed schools.
All the best,

Hi I have been offered a job in Thailand with MediaKids, and just wondering if anyone knows anything about the company - has worked for them before etc. Simply coz all their contacts are on hotmail, and some of their schools are in the middle of nowhere...some are in Bangkok and on the coast, but it would be good to hear from anyone in the know! |

This won't help much, but I did have two friends that worked for them and neither stayed very long or were overly impressed. |

My contract offer includes pre-paid R/T airfare from Canada or US, with a one year return date.
The contract states that if one doesn't finish the entire assignment, then the full airfare has to be reimbursed. This is a concern, as I don't wish to be in a bad situation (i.e., overworked, shoddy conditions, lack of support) with little recourse.
Now I'm not alleging this to be a case of luring one with pre-paid air, only to turn the screw, although stranger things have happened in the wacky world of teaching abroad. Perhaps it's a fair deal, and the airfare is given due to the low (in BKK) 25000 Baht per month salary. Comments?

Personally I'd not rely on the return airfare....I think you've kind of got the right feeling in regards to what you're saying (if you get what I mean?). |

After a diligent search for my super-covert decoder ring, your message is cracked and understood.

Both people I know that worked for them lasted less than a few months (if that!).
Maybe try it, but assume the worst....and you won't be dissapointed if it fails (and happy if it doesn't!).
Sorry to be a downer!
All the best though! |
