I know they must not be the greatest place to work as they're always advertising for that job!

I know nothing about them--but a salary that low will not make for a pleasant experience here.

If housing and utilities are included, and I think that is what their ad says, it is not an unliveable salary at all for a single person. I don't go for trashing businesses on the internet with for no reason so if you don't have personal experience don't comment, would be my personal advice. Idea

The housing is with a Mexican family. If that's your cup of tea, fine, but I think for most people, living with a bunch of strangers wears pretty thin after a few weeks. And 4000 pesos a month isn't a lot of spending money if you want to hop on a bus and travel around.

I know of one woman who worked for 4500 pesos per month, plus the school provided a one-bedroom apartment and utilities. After about 8 months she had to move on to something better; she felt she just wasn't leaving comfortably on such a low salary.

It's more than what I made my first year in Mexico, and I had to pay all my own expenses. Shocked
but that was 5 years ago.

Would I ever do it again? NO! Absosmurfly not!

I read over their ad, and the best part seems to be that you can sign on for a short term (3-4 months) and then if you don't like it, you can move on. I wouldn't be too keen on living with a family either. I am not 17, just out of highschool and I do need my own space.

I suppose if you are only interested in a short-term Mexican experience, it might be OK.

You can certainly do better in Mexico, and in Michoacan, than 4000 pesos per month.

You meant living comfortably right? It really depends on where you are in the country as cost-of-living varies widely.

Housing is always an issue here. Culturally, younger family members generally don't leave home at 18 like Americans and Canadians, so you don't see a widespread system in place to support what we are used to. Now, many kids do head off to other cities to go to university. For that, you'll find a lot of casas de huespedes, for which the closest analogy I can think of is a university dorm.

You're right--some of us aren't in this for the money. I would not be coming up on 13 years here if money were the incentive.

That said, 4000 pesos--even if one is not paying rent--is not enough to get by on and do any exploration of the country. The minimum if one is not paying rent would be 6000 per month.

Schools that try to take advantage of the ignorance of folks as to what it costs to live here are certainly legitimate targets of criticism--whether we've had personal experience with them or not.
