This site seems like a great place to get toehr peoples opinions of where to go with teaching, i think it's great.
I'm looking for some advice on where are good locations for a canadian couple to look for work over in europe. I'm a new grad and she's got 2 years under her belt. We're looking to go overseas next year but are having a hard time figuring out what countries are best for canadians ( working conditions as well as ease in getting working visas). And then aside from that what schools would you recommend in those locations. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

The short answer is that most of Western Europe will be difficult to impossible to get work permits in.
Central/Eastern Europe is still doable (though by next year, who knows?! the new EU member countries will be slowly changing their laws, so you should try to keep posted before actually leaving).
It may be tough to get ideas about individual schools. In Prague alone, for example, there are nearly 100 language schools. Generally, you get an interview when you are in the country, rather than before you arrive anyway - so you'll have a chance to ask questions of local teachers and see the school and its staff yourself before making a decision. It's extremely rare to get an interview, much less a contract, in advance in Europe. This is because schools have been burned in the past - people didn't show up, or when they did they had misrepresented themselves in some way on their CVs. The schools want to see you standing there, looking professional, with your credlentials in hand.
Best of luck |
