|

Hi All - I've been reading this forum on and off for about a week and came across the name of a woman and her tel. no. which somebody had posted regarding changing a tourist visa to a business visa...
At the time I thought I'd write it down later...well, now is later and do you think I can find that post?! no bleep ways and I've been trawling the site for hours now...
Can someone remember who the agent is & her phone number? All of you who are already in Vietnam have been through this process - please help me on this one...
Y'day I went to Saigon Tourist and they were anything but helpful so please don't suggest them!
I do appreciate your help! |

Saigon tourist, and other "tourist" agencies and companies, will also try to rip you off by overcharging. I also don't believe they switch individuals from tourist to business (not their function).
Can't your school provide you with help?
If not, there are individuals who can do this. The best way to find them is to ask around.
Good luck. |

I don't want the visa changed....when I need to get a new visa, I'd rather get a business visa than have my tourist visa extended...
Somebody posted on this forum the name and contact details of a woman he/she had used & I'm looking for that contact....altho' it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack with all the posts....so I am hoping that the person who posted it would remember and be able to give me the contact details....
Thanks! |

There are numerous travel agents around HCMC who provide visa services, not just one. But for a price as Snaff mentions. Check around as much as possible to find which travel agent can do a 6-month business visa the cheapest. There is single entry or multiple entry if you plan to leave the country.
Also as Snaff mentions you should ask around. Talk to teachers at the school where you work or if you don't yet have a job, work at at a school where you're the only foreign teacher or you just don't socialize with your colleagues find a teacher on the street [they're really easy to spot] and ask. Your best source of teaching info in Vietnam is word of mouth. |

It might have been the one I listed on the Teaching Vietnam FAQ. Ms Dung (0919170475), the lady I mentioned, provided a sterling service for me before my present school took on the task.

Thanks so much for Ms Dung's number - I don't remember looking at that section but then I might have, I've done a lot of browsing!
Another question: I've been offered some editing work - any idea what the going rate is per hour - I've not done any in Vietnam so I've no clue...

What kind of editing work have you been offered?
The going pay rate depends on what kind of editing work is involved. I've done my share of editing work in the past few years here in Saigon and can help you out with more info.

Thanks for the ball park figure in Hanoi....
For now, I've been offered magazines to edit....any editing can be dull - I've yet to edit anything fantastic...that could be cos the English has been so awful...but that's not been in Vietnam....
Anybody else had any editing jobs & can give me an idea of rate of pay? Does it vary that much depending on the content? That surprises me.... |

Pay rates for editing certainly does vary. I did a stint as a subeditor of the Vietnam News that paid around US$10 per hour but have earned up to US$25 doing freelance editing work for advertising copy, university dissertations and technical or business documents.
I'm currently working for a magazine that pays about 8 cents per word for editing duties and 10 cents per word for articles written.
I've heard a number of other figures from others I know editing in HCMC. Send me a private message if you want more details. |
