Hi
Have just applied to both these centres to do the Celta this coming August-yet to find out if accepted.
Sydney institute in Shanghai and language link in Hanoi.
Has anyone else done this course with them and what did you think of the centre?
What are our chances of getting work straight away after finishing in the locality?
What about accomadation? I am doing this with my husband so we will need something for both us.
Thanking in advance[img][/img] |

I looked into the SILC course in Shanghai as well, and, although it's one of the few places you can do the CELTA on the mainland, the price is bloody expensive ($2700).
My brother did the course in Language Link and found it a much better deal, around half this cost. I did my CELTA at ECC Thai in Bangkok for the same, that is $1400.
All the CELTA courses are externally audited by an assessor from Cambridge university, so the course is transferable around the globe.

Thanks for that Steve.
We are going to apply to a few others as you say the price for Shanghai is a lot!!!!
Wonder why the high cost, who would be attracted to it and surely pro rota in China that is a lot if you are teaching already or even just travelling for a while?

This is all speculation, but a Hong Kong centre offers a similar course and price. As well, they have interactive whiteboards in the class, the latest TEFL resources, and supposedly more qualified and experienced trainers (but in reality, all instructors are assessed through Cambridge).
Perhaps the Shanghai centre can also boast these things and charge up to the wazoo, but regardless of where you take the course, the CELTA is valid around the globe.
I showed this price to one of my local Chinese friends who's also interested in CELTA. She took one look at it and nearly fainted. That's more than a year's wages!!!
