Another Explanation for Visits to Massage Centers
It is probably true quite generally
that in the history of human thinking
the most fruitful developments frequently take place
at those points where two different lines of thought meet.
These lines may have their roots in quite different parts
of human nature,
in different times or different cultural environments
or different religious traditions:
hence if they actually meet,
that is,
if they are at least so much related to each other
that a real interaction can take place,
then one may hope that new and interesting developments
may follow. -

| In other words, they're a substitute for smutty pornography, which is a substitute for the fast sex of a prostitute, which is a substitute for the thrill of a one night stand, which is a substitute for a romantic short-term relationship, which is a substitute for a meaningful long-term relationship, which is an escape from the responsibility to marriage which is lacking in some or all of the above. |

Teachers/Learners can benefit by being conscious of the incredible
(though often unconscious)
influence of context upon the thinking process
With a change of TITLE, note that the same article takes on a different meaning...
A Token of My Extreme and others...as you re-read these words (with a different Title) do you see anything relating to massage/anti-marriage?
I submit that we may be seeing more of this can of worms--in the classroom, and on the planet. A Pandora's Box of Dark Shadow Energy has been released upon the Psychic airwaves. The less conscious are the more susceptible. Head-smashing is not a viable prophylactic for preventing these psychic viruses...

In other words, they're agents of a culture, which is a substitute for being an agent of a cult, which is a substitute for having something of their own to say, which is a substitute for having something of their own to do which may not be synergetic with some or all of the above.

Consider...EFL teacher as a SHAMAN...bringing the class to altered states of consciousness...OK is KaraOK

Shamanism: Our Oldest Religion
Shamanism may well be our oldest form of religion, going back over 50,000 years to our days as hunters and gatherers. The shaman is a strange and charismatic figure, someone who has died and been reborn, who can travel to the spirit worlds, and who functions simultaneously as priest, healer, and diviner in the community. The key vehicle used by the shaman for spirit journeys and healing work is the drum, which is often conceptualized as a horse that the shaman rides. A loud and steady continuous beat moves the shaman into a trance state, enabling travel to the underworlds or upperworlds, conversations with medicine animals and spirit beings, encounter with death, retrieval of lost souls, and healing powers or visions.
Once a religious complex that spanned the globe, shamanism is still extant in Siberia, Lapland, and Central Asia. Parts of this complex can be found in diverse cultures like the Huichol Indians of Mexico or the indigenous Bon-Po religion of Tibet...
...Finally, there is the matter of where the foundations for an alternative global culture that transcends outmoded divisions of race, class, ethnicity, gender, and nationstate are being built on the dance floors of our parties. So, while we respect and celebrate our roots in the ancient heritage of trance music, we are also taking the tradition forward to the next level of manifestation in the new millennium.

FCC On RATS, Rats, rats...
Dateline: 09/14/00
Democratic US Senators Ron Wyden of Oregon and John Breaux of Louisiana have requested that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigate the Republican Party's "RATS" presidential campaign ad.
You've probably heard the "RATS" flap -- the disclosure on Tuesday that a George W. Bush presidential campaign TV ad critical of Vice President Gore displayed the word "RATS" momentarily over the smaller words, "The Gore Prescription Plan -- Bureaucrats Decide."
While Gov. Bush's campaign asserted that "RATS" took up only one out of 900 frames, appeared for only 1/30th of a second, and was accidentally created, the ad was criticized by the Gore campaign as being a deliberately delivered subliminal advertisement.
Subliminal TV advertisements are visual messages, either text or pictures, which are displayed repeatedly during the ad for such short periods of time that consumers do not "see" them with the naked eye, but may comprehend them with the subconscious mind.
What can the FCC do about the "RATS" ad?
The FCC issued its only regulation on subliminal advertising on Jan. 29, 1974. The entire regulation states:
"Subliminal Programming. The FCC sometimes receives complaints regarding the alleged use of subliminal techniques in radio and television programming. Subliminal programming is designed to be perceived on a subconscious level only. The Commission has held that the use of subliminal perception is inconsistent with the obligations of a licensee and contrary to the public interest because, whether effective or not, such broadcasts are intended to be deceptive." (39 Federal Register 3714, January 29, 1974) (Note: The Federal Register prior to 1995 is not available online.)
Under this regulation, FCC-licensed TV and radio stations are banned from knowingly broadcasting programming containing subliminal messages of any nature. While broadcasters are not expected to screen ads or programs for subliminal messages, they are expected to stop airing them as soon as they become aware of their existence.
According to a CNN Report of Sept. 13, 2000, Bush campaign managers told reporters that the $2,576,600 ad, which had aired more than 4,400 times in 33 markets nationwide in the last two weeks, was already scheduled to be removed from the air. |

Slippery Slope
which is a substitute for LOGIC
Definition:
In order to show that a proposition P is unacceptable, a sequence of increasingly unacceptable events is shown to follow from P. A slippery slope is an illegitimate use of the "if-then" operator.
Examples:
(i) If we pass laws against fully-automatic weapons, then it won't be long before we pass laws on all weapons, and then we will begin to restrict other rights, and finally we will end up living in a communist state. Thus, we should not ban fully-automatic weapons.
(ii) You should never gamble. Once you start gambling you find it hard to stop. Soon you are spending all your money on gambling, and eventually you will turn to crime to support your earnings.
(iii) If I make an exception for you then I have to make an exception for everyone.
Proof:
Identify the proposition P being refuted and identify the final event in the series of events. Then show that this final event need not occur as a consequence of P.

| Cut the BS . We are nothing more than volunteer workers here in China . We are the bottom of the bottom of foreign experts in China . We are expected to work and pay them . Deng Shao Ping said it is OK to be rich in China . What he meant was it is OK to be rich providing you make your money from foreigners and not Chinese . |

I hear ya'.
Not many FTs are getting rich...
...except hard-working highly-paid well-connected folks in BJ/SH/SZ/GZ
But then...in my USA nation, teachers are...
My solution...
*do only teaching gigs that I creatively enjoy
*develop my own project on Hainan Is.
*get gloriously rich...
*learn glorious SCUBA |

Your a lucky person movie magic and I must thank you for some teaching ideas . My students really enjoyed doing the drunken guest skit .
We are classified as foreign experts but we must go along with their learning agenda that we know doesn't work . No TPR because children need to learn to sit still and copy copy copy . They want my kids to learn English poetry . And do as little listening work as possible. It's too difficult for them .
So in the Chinese classroom it is OK to sleep but you are forbidden to talk . Now this is opposite to our classses where everyone can talk and sleeping is difficult because there is something interesting going on . |
