Greetings:
Recently, I was told of the death of a former colleague of mine, Dr. Julian Baecker in Riyadh. The details are sketchy but I was told that he was found dead in his apartment in Riyadh on February 15. I also heard that the cause of dead was unknown and the autopy is not completed yet. I heard finally that he was working on a military contract but other people said he was at the IPA (the Institute of Public Administration). I am rather shocked by Julians death and would appreciate any further information if anyone has any. Please post it or mail it to this email address:

Thank you! |

Yeah he was at the IPA. Not quite sure on the cause of death.

De mortuis nil nisi bonum.
For the benefoit of those without a classical education that emans "Speak no ill of the dead."
I find this in bad taste on a public forum. |

Perhaps it was the best usool could find to say about him? |

He worked at IPA and unfortunately had his contract terminated because of a personality conflict. He died of a heart attack on his way to the airport. |

I utterly agree with Scot47.
Julian is gone, and why do I sense somehow that some posters here are just aching to speak critically of the man?
Julian was a man who was certainly unique, as he wished to be. However, my memory of the man (I also was a former colleague of J's) is of a larger-than-life character who brightened up any company he was in with his tall tales, flamboyant outfits, anecdotes, bon mots, and unusual perspectives on life. He was also, in my opinion, an excellent classroom teacher, who was very much liked by his students and was helpful towards colleagues. Whether it was advice on car repairs or hours spent helping to sort out computer problems, Julian was always ready to lend a hand.
No, he was not perfect. But then, who really is? If anyone out there knows a perfect individual, let me know so I can meet them!!
I was numbed and shocked by J's death.
I hope that he is now driving across the great desert in the sky in his heavenly Rolls-Royce or celestial camper-van, on his way to a less than angelic party!! |
