I'm looking for some educated opinions here, and I've read the previous SARS posts (from March/April). I know what SARS is, but I want to know how it'll affect my chances of going to Asia.
What I want to know is: How much have things changed in Asia since March? Is it pretty safe going to work there? What about Japan? What are the countries where I'd be at the least risk, so to speak? If I go will I be looked at funny whenever I cough (I'm coming from Canada, but not Toronto ) Will I be at a high-risk if I have asthma?
Here's my reason for asking: My back up plan if I didn't get into teacher's college was to go to Asia to teach ESL. But I keep flipping back and forth, I can't decide if I'm safer (health-wise) at home. I've already got a BA, CELTA, and ESL experience, so Asia seems like a nice place to go (at least the next step in my life).
It would be nice to know what's really going on and also how the situation has changed in the last two months. Of course I could watch the news or read news clippings, but I may not be getting the real story or sentiment.
Thanks. Your responses are much appreciated |

ah thanks (I think). All the info I'm reading is about China, China, China. I guess I should mention that I'm not really interested in China. I'm looking for info in regards to HK, Korea, and Japan. So after scouring the threads (again) throughout these boards (yes, I did look at the individual boards for Asia) I've learned that Korea has only had three suspected cases throughout this whole SARS thing.
Can anyone give me some input for Japan and Korea? Something other than what I see in the media for HK would be great as well.
Thanks |
