Recently I have been searching for jobs and find that many nowadays require some sort of certification.
I am currently teaching in Beijing China and feel that I do a pretty good job, without a certificate. I can understand schools wanting good teachers and keeping out people who cant even speak well but then again there are these courses that cost thousands of dollars, for what?

1600 dollars is a lot of money.

2nd, If I want to receive a certificate to teach younger learners I have to first take a celta and then a 2nd course? Money money money money. thats what it seems like it is coming down to.

How can we stop this?

There is also a CELTYL. Which is a CELTA for teaching kids. This course isn't offered nearly as often or as widely as the CELTA.

well as Gordon said you can just do a standalone CELTYL instead of the CELTA if you want to specialise in kids but if you have already got the CELTA all you need to do is the CELTYL Extension to the CELTA which is a different, slimmed down course.

You can simply stop getting qualifications. In any society worth its salt, education of value costs something and is a particularly labour intensive industry.

I am a CELTA trainer. Every trainee with teaching experience I have ever had has told me that they were glad they took the course and that it improved their teaching a lot. I have also seen teachers with years of experience improve remarkably after taking the certification course. As for the money, since your employability goes up so much once you are certified, you will likely recover the cost of the course in the first year of employment -- this has been the case for most of the trainees I have known. There is an excellent CELTYL in Auckland New Zealand at Oceania. Good luck
