Hi y'all!

I'm hoping to land a summer camp position in China this summer and Rainbow Summer Camp, part of Rainbow Educational in Taiwan, is advertising. Has anyone ever worked for them? The pay seems good-$1,650 US for a month long session; however, room and board are not included so rent would have to paid to Rainbow Educational if you need them to help you find accomodation, the situation I would be in. I've never worked for a summer camp so any advice or warning would be appreciated.

Not giving you room and board is so unusual for summer camps, but I would allow myself at least 300rmb (don't know the Taiwan conversion) a day for a halfway decent hotel and food and transportation (unless you are within walking distance to the school) - - does that sound reasonable, folks?

Take that times 30 and we are talking 9000rmb for a month! Divided by 8.2 (exchange rates) and you are looking at over $1,000 US dollars to live for a month. If you split the room cost with another teacher, then obviously your expenses will be greatly reduced. Or, if the group has a special deal with a nearby hotel, they may be able to reduce as well.

I looked at another Taiwan summer camp and they advertise a certain amount and that includes your salary and to cover your airfare - - basically, the lower your airfare, the more your "salary" is. I really don't see that in mainland China too much. Generally they offer a salary, plus room and board, plus meals on campus - - many of them promise one or two tours of local attractions on your days off.

It's over on the Job Board - - here's the link. It seems like a recruitment agency (and I've had nightmares with some of those: Global China TEFL - formally known as Helen China TEFL - - I'll say it again, BEWARE OF THIS ONE, folks!), but who can know ahead of time, right? Here's the link:
