|
|
Hello,
I am currently residing in Vancouver Canada where I attend Law School. From October 11th 2002 until August 22nd 2004, I lived and worked in Japan with Aeon Corp. I was very successful with them, receiving a teacher of the month award, and getting some writing credit in some of their textbooks.
My work visa is still valid (until October 2005), and I was really hoping to come to Japan for the summer to teach English somewhere close to either Okayama Ken or Hyogo Ken. Since I worked with Aeon my whole time in Japan, I really don't have any experience finding something for a shorter term.
So I would like to ask for the community's advice about where I should check for some leads. Also if anyone knows of any opportunities for that time period, I would really appreciate hearing from you! I just really need to make some money for tuition, and I would like to have a job ready when I get off the airplane rather than job hunting there.
The time period is from approximately May until the beginning of September (my classes resume Sept. 7th).
Again any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Cheers!

Dude, you really need to read through some old posts and search before you post.
But to answer your questions:
First, regarding your visa: unless you remembered to secure a re-entry permit before you left Japan, no -- your visa is NO LONGER valid. If this is indeed your case, then pretty much your only option will be to come on a working holiday visa (if you're under 30 years old). Please do a search using "working holiday visa" as search terms, select "ALL WORDS" and restrict search to the Japan forum for details....
Second, in regards to short-term (less than a year) positions, try these threads:

In addition, you MAY wish to try Berlitz. I had a friend work for them for a summer once, but I don't know if that was because they ALLOWED him to or because he bailed mid-contract. |

Jim
Whoops, You know, its the case of post first think later...yeah should have checked the search field first.
And yeah I did buy a re-entry permit before I left. I was actually back in Japan last month for a visit, so had to go back to Okayama City to get my Seigococukyokashio (or however its pronounced - re-entry permit).
So Im still good. Will check through those threads when I get a chance.
Thanks,
Adam. |

I wouldn't really worry about the posting w/o reading thing...
You did ask for leads, which would imply more up-to-date information after all.
I can't help you, but maybe you should search around and see if there is anyone in the forum that is already staying in the neighborhood of where you intend to live. It seems to me like you need some current localized info. At least the location of a bullitan board of post-it notes containing offers somwhere, y'know?!
If course you can always search the intenet for work, but personally I havn't had much good luch with that. Besides, if you are trying to get work, it's always better to get a direct connection with them rather than their only knowedge of you being from a relatively anonymous email they recieved one day. Getting personal always helps. So as soon as possible get off the internet and get on the phone |
