Shot in the dark post that probably won't get a reply. I'm in Argentina for three months. I wouldn't mind doing a bit of teaching but i'm not that bothered. Wrote to about 60 schools and haven't had not one single reply..Thank god this is more of a holiday. If anyone has any advice on how to get a response from any of these schools ..please tell me ... and if anyone wants to meet up..tell me too..

I-m pretty sure that most people go to the schools in person and talk to the director, in Latin America, they like to meet people face to face.

Buenos Aires is a city of 20,000,000 people. Just going to one school would probably take me most of the day. I suppose that's the secret, phone the schools first and then go to see them. E-mails are a waste of time. All I can say is, I'm glad I don't need the money and am more or less on holiday. A good well qualified experienced teacher is obviously not considered an asset here. As is typical in the Spanish speaking world it's all form over content.
If anyone knows of anywhere which is actually looking for a teacher and are prepared to pay a decent wage i.e 15 - 30 pesos then post here or p.m. me

Capital Federal has a population of just under 3 million people. Gran Buenos Aires (which includes the surrounding suburbs, for example the Nothern Suburbs such as Olivos and San Isidro) has a population of around 8 million.

Most of the schools are slap bang in the city centre and you can easily go around and drop off your CV at over 20 schools in about 3-4 hours. Then you wait for them to call and offer an interview. The fact that you're staying for just 3 months will mean most places will turn their noses up at you and bid you farewell. You could always try wall st, i was told recently thay pay 7.50 an hour though...

Good, well qualified teachers are becoming an asset here as the city and the language schools are being swamped by unqualified native speakers (very often without even any experience) who think that because they speak english they can teach it.

Matt is completely right. The downtown core has a high density of schools. I have been looking for about 2 weeks now, and the most effective way so far has been to call first and then follow up.

I had an outdated list of schools when I first arrived, so that was a complete waste of time. The best sources so far have been the Sunday (and pretty much only the Sunday) edition of The BsAs Herald, and the yellow pages under �Idiomas�.

Schools are looking.........for only 3 months may be a problem. Also there is the little issue of that pesky CUIT number. The answer to getting one has been as elusive as the reasoning behind owning a large dog in a small apartment, in a big city..........

Hope that helps. I think you would enjoy your stay much more if you just enjoyed Argentina and forgot about the whole work thing.....I mean work has a tendency to really interfere with recreation time.

Thanks for the help. I'm living in Barcelona at the moment and not really enjoying it all that much. I really love Argentina and would like to move here. I just really wanted to make contact with a few schools and find out what the situation is here for the future.
So thanks and good luck to everybody whose here and looking for a job. (I can't believe Wall Street pay 7.50. From what I can see most normal products here are twice in pesos to what they would be in Euros in Spain and anything from outside is just a bit cheaper than it would be in Europe. i.e 200 pesos for a pair of 50 euro shoes in Spain, and lets face it if they can afford to pay european prices for a pair of shoes, they can afford to pay European prices for an English class, especially as good native teachers must (I imagine) be in short supply)
