FEMALE TEACHERS IN TAIWAN
Over the years SSETT has attempted to make female foreign teachers aware of a trend in sexual assault on occupied Taiwan particularly in the more corrupt and lawless regions of Taiwan. Not surprisingly, the predominantly male majority of foreign teachers goes to great lengths to deny that any problem of sexual assault exist becuase they have never been victimised.
As the racist, corrupt and incompetent occupational authorities of the Republic of China on Taiwan continue to bring the island to the verge of anarchyand economic ruin, violent crime continues to increase targeting anyone who shows any sign of weakness. Unfortunately women and children and non Chinese minorities tend to bear the brunt of the violence.
Quote:
Recently, there have been cases of sexual assault against Canadians and other foreigners. In some of these cases, the assailant was disguised as a repair or delivery person in order to gain entry to the apartment. Victims have reported being robbed and sexually assaulted. Canadian teachers should remain cautious and never open the door to strangers. Some teachers have posted signs in Mandarin on the front door, informing visitors that the door will not be opened without prior notification of an appointment. Wherever possible you should try and share accommodation with another teacher.

Should you become the victim of a sexual assault you should immediately seek the assistance of the nearest medical and police authorities. The Canadian consul can:

assist in reporting the crime to the police;
provide support and assistance in relation to the emotional, social, medical and legal consequences of the assault;
assist in contacting relatives or friends;
contact counselling services locally, if available, or in Canada;
provide emergency financial assistance;
assist in finding accommodations, arranging flights home and meeting basic safety needs; and
ensure that a proper investigation is carried out and charges laid if the person responsible has been identified.

Odd how 3 websites dedicated to expat life in taiwan have nothing about this, isn't it? More scare-mongering from Aristotle. Ladies, common sense that you would travel the streets of Canada with is more than sufficient to keep you safe in Taiwan. More so, if you don't project yourself as a victim here, yu will most likely b eignored by the small percentage of cretin that exists here. Don't get in a cab without someone else having knowledge of this and you shoulod be fine.

The Canadian Trade Office in Taiwan nor SSETT are commercial enterprises dedicated to perpetuating the farce of the ROC on Taiwan or making a profit off of other people's ignorance. If you have a problem with advice from the Canadian Trade Office on Taiwan take it up with them. SSETT has repeatedly issued similar warnings over the years with the same response from predominately male foreign teachers on Taiwan and overseas Chinese not living on Taiwan. Those warnings have been re-aproved annually and will be until the cases they pertain to have been addressed and rectified.

Don't forget to tell folks that SSETT or whatever it is, is your defacto union of 1 dedicated to badmouthing Taiwan.

Not a commercial enterprise? That's the first thing you've ever said here that I agree with. Youcouldn't possibly be a commercial enterprise as you are the only member.

Oh, and welcome back. I haven't had anyone to verbally beat up in awhile. Your future antics are anticipated greatly.

Aristotle your very post reeks of sexism otherwise you wouldn't have directed your post towards females only. Men can be raped too and the Canadian website did not specify women so why did you? Sexist!!

As to any suggestion that this is some sort of epidemic or restricted to Taiwan well obviously it isn't:

Canadian Embassy Thailand

Quote:
Sexual assaults against foreign women have occurred. Female travellers should exercise caution at all times. Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada publishes a booklet, Her Own Way, specifically targeted at female travellers. Its prime objective is to inform and inspire Canadian women to travel safely.

Korea

Quote:
Sexual assaults against foreigners have occurred. Exercise caution, remain aware of your surroundings, and avoid walking alone after dark. The use of public transport after dark may be safer than using taxis when travelling alone. However, when subway and bus services end for the night, use officially marked taxis only and, if possible, do not travel alone.

Interestingly Taiwan does not feature on the travel warning pages of the Canadian Embassy website but Thailand does twice. Isn't that where you are Aristotle?

I am not knocking the advice given by the Canadian government in relation to Taiwan as it is helpful and common sense.

I do question however the motives behind your post.

Please notice that I voted no and there are only two other posts here. That means the yes vote came from someone who is not leaving a post (which I doubt) or from TS (We've had our differences, but I highly doubt that female impersonation is one of his vices) or Aristotle himself .......Hmmmmmm?

What next from the A-Man? Hot tips on the best place to buy tampons? After-waxing care?

Ladies, I take taxies, walk around at night, ride buses and the train to other cities and even - Gasp - carry large sums of money, on occasion. And I have NEVER been bothered.

But if you are concerned about safety issues, please feel free to ask anyone on the board, who actually lives in this country, for advice.

Cat

(edit - Sorry. Clark, who types much faster than I do got his post up first. But not before the single yes vote was posted)

Erm....I actually made my bones as an actor by portraying a black market meat dealing trannie. I was convincing enough to land one of the top agents in Hollyweird North. He was gay and was highly suspect that I could pull it off. He watched the tape and signed me. This resulted in 7 X-Files auditions amongst other episodics.

As to it being a vice? Nah, just a job. But I did feel I'd "arrived" as an actor when I had to buy myself some black lace panties (XXXL) to get that trannie feel, you know, down there...

Method Acting....gotta love it.

Here we go again.... Aristotle's back.

He's like the Jason from Halloween of these message boards. Just when you think he's gone forever, he's back. No one wants him here; no one pays ANY creedence to his irrational, racist (ironically so, since he claims to be some kind of moral crusader) posts.

If you are a new reader, go back and read a number of his posts before you pay attention. You'll quickly find him to be a nut and start enjoying the absurdity of his posts and one man "society".

Should you use common sense in Taiwan? Of course.

You will also find, as a foreigner, male or female, that Taiwan is a SAFER place than any Western country.

That's a FACT.
