I have heard that its possible to skip the 2 week quaranteen and get my cat into the country. My cat is older, and will not tolerate other animals. She would simply die in quarantine. People have told me that you can get it okayed to have the cat put under quaranteen in your house only.

Ive lived her for a while, and i like it, however I spent over ten years with my cat, and i want to go back and get her. Trust me, I already know its going to be inconveinant and complicated, but its important enough for me to look into.

1. Has anyone done this? who do i need to talk to to get it arranged so that if i go back and get her, I know its been okayed or cleared to come back with her.
2. If i get through that... i need to get her from the airport (presumably Nagoya is closest) to where I live...near Iwakuni. Can i do that on shinkansen? How can I get her there?

This page seems to have detailed information:

Looks like you will have to quarantine the animal unless you are living on a US military base.

Ive been told by 2 people that the got medical certificates from vets cicting an animals inability to tolerate quarantine, so they were allowed to quaranteen the enaimal by just restricting them to the home. I cant reach those people tho.

Join the Yahoo group angelswithfur. They have all the info. Google AQS Japan, too.

Quarantine is short now if you've got all your papers in order. (12 hours, I think.) Your cat won't be in with any other cats, obviously. They all get their own cages. You could probably ask for a cage where your cat couldn't see any other cats...

My cat went through the 2 week quarantine period no problem at age 17. They're very tough critters. Talk to your vet and get something like rescue remedy/other mild tranquillizer-like substance, if you're worried. (My vet told me not to use regular tranqs; too hard on older hearts or something.)

Once out of jail, you can take your cat on the trains.

I think it costs about 1,000 to take a dog on the shinkansen, so I guess it would be the same for a cat (between Osaka and Yokohama, for example).

Small cat fee: 270 yen. Just checked. No charge for the plane... so IF the fee were that high, flying would make more sense.

Hey. thanks for the information. cool about the shinkanasen. My animal simply cant be caged for 2 weeks with other animals in the vivinity. I once moved her into a house with another cat, even though they were sepreate, she would growl so long that she appeared to foam at the mouth. Literally. Shes very high strung. Ill look into the group tjo. thanks for the great leads.
