I am currently living in Brazil and would like to visit a friend in Paraguay. I know that I need a visa to go to Paraguay and I know that there is a consulate in Sao Paulo. Since it`s tough for me to get in touch with them (work all day during business hours and they will only talk about visas at a certain hour; website is uninformative and they don`t answer emails), I wondered if anyone knew about the process of getting a visa. Will I have to go to SP or can I do it by mail? Would appreciate your help!

Ok... I had to do a similar thing when I lived in Argentina and wanted a Brazilian visa... So... here is what I found out:
There is a Paragyan consulate in Foz do Iguazu, Brazil. In order to get a Paraguayan visa in Foz do Iguazu, you have to show an onward/return ticket, a credit card in the applicants name, passport and two passport photos. I'm not sure how much it costs. Visas for short stays are free and take about half an hour to issue.
If you plan to travel there on bus from SP state (I think that's where you are teaching) you will be passing thru. Foz... so, you will mostly likely have to pass a few hours there to get the visa... but you could just go see water falls while you are waiting!
Here is the link I was reading on... http://www.lonelyplanet.com/letters/sam/bra_pc.htm#Visa
I just searched 'Paraguayan consulate in Brazil'. A lot of info. came up.

Where do you plan to travel in Paraguay? Asuncion?

Hope the info helps!

thanks, nomadamericana! i will be going to the area of asuncion, so i think i will be crossing the border from the north, at ponta pora, rather than foz. looks like there is a consulate there, too, so i assume the procedure will be similar. i'll definitely make foz another trip, though!
