Hello,

I'm a Canadian female of South-Asian descent, and I'm wondering if I'd have problems working in Poland. How tolerant/not is it? I'm a native speaker and just have a neutral Canadian accent. Will it be more difficult to get a job, any dangers, etc?

Thanks for your help!

well there is some anti-semitism.
Some people don`t like gypsies or blacks.
I think I heard a woman complain about Ukrainians stealing jobs from Poles.

You'll be fine in Poland. It is a relatively open culture.

I'm both Asian and Latin and it's all been good. In smaller towns I get a lot of stares but is it just curiousity.

In fact I'm almost considering staying here because in Asia it maybe be harder for me to get a job because I don't have a white face. Sad

Hey, thanks, that's reassuring. Where are you in Poland? Any recommendations?

I'm in Cracow. Which I highly recommend. If you go through some of the other threads you'll see why.

Basically I would say the best cities are Cracow, Wroclaw, Gdansk and perhaps Warsaw. But I personally wouldn't want to live in Warsaw sure it is more international but to me it is just another capitol city and I don't think it is representative of the best of Poland.

Good luck,

Gregory

I live in a small town and along with that comes some small town mentality. I feel that SOME people will look at you strangely if they hear you speak English.
One of my Polish friends admitted that Poles weren't the most tolerant of different cultures etc..
Of course, it is really difficult to generalize.
