|
|
Hi,
I know that I need a return airline ticket to apply for a WHV to Japan. Is this ticket tied to the visa in any way once it's issued? Do you need to show proof of the return ticket when you enter the country?
I want to travel through Europe and eventually make my way to Japan before the Visa expires, but this makes it extremely difficult to purchase a return ticket. Does anyone have any experience with cancelling their ticket after receiving the visa?
Thanks. |

Shouldn't affect you one way or another... It's generally cheaper to buy a return ticket rather than 1-way anyway.... So.. Buy a return ticket to/from Japan, and buy your other tickets: i.e. from Japan to Europe....
But to answer your question precisely.... Your ticket must have been issued and you must bring it into the consulate. After your visa is issued (stamped into your passport) no one cares what you do with the plane ticket.... But good luck changing it or returning it without there being some kind of penalty imposed by the travel agency.... |

Thanks for the info. What I want to do is get a WHV for the Netherlands, and one for Japan at the same time. Then I'll travel to Europe for 11 months, and eventually make my way over to Japan, by train probably, before the time limit on the Japanese WHV expires. But the Japanese consulate wants a return plane ticket, so I think from your information, I should be able to buy a refundable plane ticket, get the Japanese WHV, and then refund the ticket. Then I would just buy a one-way ticket out of Japan while I'm in Europe to satisfy the Japanese immigration folks.
Does this sound plausible? |

Yeah, it sounds plausible if not economically feasible. But if you've managed to figure out a way to do it cheaply, go for it. No one will be looking at your flight ticket after your passport is stamped with a visa.
Similarly, after I got my Japanese WHV I promptly returned ALL my traveller's cheques 'cause I absolutely HATE the damn things... |

the crappy part of needing a return ticket to get the whv is that if you dont plan on going back to your home country before a year, you may as well get a one-way ticket. you cant book a return to your home country more than a year from when you leave. when i go to japan in the next few months i plan on staying there for at least a year. i have no plans or desires to come back to canada before a year - though i very much want to travel throughout asia while in japan. if you buy an open return ticket you need to book your return date and in theory you can just not show up for the return date and book a new one, but it has to be done before a year is up. its pooey. i dont really want to get a one-way ticket but that looks like the way its shaping up.
anyone know what the policy is for a straight work visa? |

If you already have a work visa prior to coming here, then you come on a 1 way ticket. |
